This 30-hour professional development course focuses on issues of Jewish identity and Peoplehood in Israel and in Jewish communities around the world. Each month, we will engage in an in-depth discussion to deepen our understanding of concepts and issues as they play out in real life. We will also experiment with practical applications of these ideas through pedagogic and technological tools that facilitate learning. The course will be conducted in English and will focus also on strengthening English language vocabulary and listening, writing, and speaking skills for Israeli students who engage in joint learning with students around the world.

This 30-hour professional development course focuses on issues of Jewish identity and Peoplehood in Israel and in Jewish communities around the world.   • Developing tools for improving speaking, writing, and listening skills in English
  • Learning about, experimenting with, and applying technological tools in class
  • Understanding the concept of “global citizenship”
  • Clarification and in-depth examination of the concepts of “Jewish identity” and “Jewish Peoplehood
  • In-depth discussion about questions of narrative, identity, Jewish Peoplehood and pluralism, and what is between them, through traditional and modern Jewish texts and sociological and historical research
  • Conversation with Jewish teachers about Jewish issues in their own Jewish communities and across the sea
  • Discussion about technological, pedagogical tools for leading Jewish Peoplehood programming in schools

Elementary, middle school, and high school teachers

For Israeli teachers, we will also focus on strengthening English language vocabulary and listening, writing, and speaking skills for classes that engage in joint learning with students around the world. The course will be conducted in English.

Lori Abramson, MAJE

Lori Abramson, MAJE, Associate Director of Jewish Peoplehood, has worked at the Oranim International School (previously the Department for Jewish Peoplehood) since 2007 and is also a lecturer in Oranim’s English and Tarbut Va’Daat programs. She has published articles and presented at conferences on the subjects of Israel education and Jewish Peoplehood and published Jewish educational curricula. Lori has a B.A. from the University of California at Davis and an M.A. in Jewish Education from Hebrew Union College. She is currently studying for a Ph.D. in Education at Bar Ilan University. Before making aliyah, Lori was the Head of Yavneh Day School in California.

Hanny Fuks, M.Ed.

Hanny Fuks, M.A. in English and Public Policy/Administration and M.Ed. is a passionate educator who has more than 20 years of experience as an EFL teacher, lecturer, and English pedagogical counselor in Israel. She is currently an Educational Manager in the International School at Oranim Academic College of Education.
She is an entrepreneur and leads various educational projects. One of her main projects is the development of a Digital Toolbox for the MITF program. She leads Boston Haifa Connection educational programming for Oranim and teaches in the English department. She also is the director of the Young Mentors program, Oranim English Clubs, and Oranim Summer School. Hanny has worked as an English teacher and English coordinator at elementary and high schools. She is a professional English counselor at the North District Ministry of Education Department.
